Marist Nyanga Old Boys COVID-19 Assistance Fund

The COVID-19 pandemic has touched every corner of the world. My former high school, Marist Nyanga in Zimbabwe has already lost many former students to this pandemic, many of whom are household heads. Based on national projections for Zimbabwe, the worst is yet to come. Regrettably, the already very weak public health system in Zimbabwe is overwhelmed with patients, resulting in many avoidable deaths especially among the poorest populations.
In January of 2021, a special committee of twelve former students from Marist Nyanga was set up to develop an intervention that can support the less privileged former students when they are diagnosed with COVID-19. This fundraising champaign is a key part of that effort.
The goal of this fund is to provide early intervention medical services to the less privileged former Marist Nyanga students with the ultimate goal of saving lives. Following the advice of medical doctors who are working on the frontlines of the pandemic in Zimbabwe, the fund will support the following interventions that are highly effective especially when deployed in the early stages of the disease (following a positive test result from a PCR or Antigen test).
1. Telephone consultation with a medical doctor for seven days. We are working with a networks of medical doctors across the country who can provide this service for only $30 per person.
2. Access to basic medications as recommended by the doctor. We are working with a network of local pharmacies who can supply the basic medicines at about $20 per patient.
Thus a contribution of $50 can make a life or death difference to someone in need and their families. Our initial target is to assist 100 individuals at about $50 per patient which adds up to $5000. An additional $1500 is needed to secure oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment that might be needed. The situation is urgent and every contribution will make a difference. Please be your brother's keeper and contribute to this charitable cause.
Nyanga High School, Marist Brothers aka 'Marist Nyanga', is a Catholic secondary school located in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe. Marist Nyanga draws most of its students from limited resource rural families and most of the former students carry the burden of looking after extended families under Zimbabwe's challenging economic conditions.
