Supporting Mark & Alana Newcombe

In 2011, Mark, Alana and his family were heartbroken when he was diagnosed with ALL  - Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (blood cancer).  Aged only 23, he faced a tough three and a half years of chemotherapy, steroids and other medications to achieve remission.  Even when treatment was complete Mark was left suffering every day with the worry that the cancer may return.
In 2014, while Mark was still having chemotherapy, Alana fell pregnant.  (They had been told that a side effect of chemotherapy could mean that they may not be able to have children, which was devastating as Mark had always wanted to be a dad.)  They then had the added worry of going through extra testing to confirm that the baby was healthy.  In January, 2015 they were overjoyed when baby Jessica was born.
Their happiness was short lived when in July, 2015 Alana lost her precious mum, very suddenly, aged 50.  With their wedding booked and paid for they were unsure whether to go ahead with it but they did and were married on 11th of June, 2016 after 12 years together.  In 2017, their family was complete with the arrival of their baby boy, Harvey.
2018 was a difficult and worrying year as Alana lost some sight and is currently seeing an ophthalmologist and neurologist for continued testing for a diagnosis.
With all this going on they decided it would be lovely to book a family holiday for the 4 of them for July 2019, which they were really looking forward to.
Then in May 2019 their lives were turned upside down again when, at routine follow up testing, they were told the cancer was back.  This time it is AML - Acute Myeloid Leukaemia and almost certainly caused by his previous treatment.  Treatment is different this time  and involves very intense chemotherapy  followed by a bone marrow transplant.  Transplant will take place in Glasgow, away from home, family and the most difficult part - away from his children who he absolutely adores.
This means that Mark will be unable to work and provide for his family,  which he has always done, until treatment is complete and he has fully recovered from it.
The family have been so overwhelmed by offers of support for Mark and Alana from fundraising to financial gifts and this seems the best way for people to be able do this.
Thank you so much.
