Dear All,

Following the devastating death that occurred on Saturday 17th February of Mark Gwynne, this fundraiser has been created to help his wife Monica and his sons Aleksander and Stefan, with all expenses associated with this tragedy, including and not limited to funeral expenses, home expenses, loss of income, grief counselling and anything else the family may require during this difficult time of grief in order to alleviate any financial burden.

Mark passed away on Saturday 17th February at the age of 51, following years of chronic ailments stemming from Type 1 Diabetes. With the loss of his eyesight due to bilateral retinopathy in 2020, Mark was unable to work and lost his income. He was deemed incapacitated and was able to withdraw funds from his Superannuation which helped alleviate the family’s financial stress for a couple of years. In 2022 Mark began suffering from high blood pressure (over 200) and was rushed to hospital via ambulance numerous times. He was diagnosed with Stage 5 kidney disease and began peritoneal dialysis (at home) which helped increase his energy levels slightly until this no longer worked. He then had to undergo haemodiaysis, less than 12 months later, which required treatment in hospital 3 days per week for 5 hours at a time (while waiting for a kidney transplant) Monica was finally approved to donate her kidney via Pair Share in November of 2023. The transplant was tentatively planned for February of this year however, Mark ended up with gangrene on his right big toe and had to have his leg amputated in January of this year. Whilst in hospital, he contracted pneumonia, an infection in his stump and he flatlined 3 times. His cause of death was deemed to be as a result of cardiac arrest due to also having heart disease.

Mark was a fighter and he fought a long and hard battle because he loved his family and wanted nothing more than to be able to enjoy spending quality time with his boys and wife.

To support the family to get through the next few months, as they navigate this new world without their beloved father and husband, we would like to give them a lending hand to ease their financial burden. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference in helping Mark's family through this heartbreaking loss.

Thank you.

This fundraiser has been created by Greg Hopkins, Brendan and Megan Crowley, Ian Ottewell and Geoff Nanscawen on behalf of Mark's wife Monica and sons Aleksander and Stefan who are the sole beneficiaries of any funds received.
