Mark Irwin
In loving memory of Mark Irwin.
Mark John Irwin, father of Jack and Oliver Irwin sadly passed away on the 23rd June 2024.
Jack and Oliver both started playing football for AFC Urmston Meadowside (Meds) from the age of 5 all the way through to the u’18s and in Jacks case through to the men’s team.
Mark played a massive role in the journey of his two boys and of many other boys and girls. Whilst Mark was a successful businessman, he still found time to volunteer as a coach at his beloved Meds, he regularly attended coaching courses to ensure he was passing on the best information achieving his FA level 2 coaching badge.
Mark never wanted the lead role but would rather play a supporting role as assistant manager although everyone respected the advice Mark gave. As well as advice he sponsored team kit every year.
Even though Jack and Oliver have now moved on to new clubs Mark stayed with Meds to help establish a thriving Pan Disability team. With Marks help this has grown from 6 children to 35 plus. Turning out on a wet Monday night to coach the children was the highlight of his week.
Meds are bursting at the seams and desperately need a new facility to continue to deliver the work to provide our 80 teams and 1200 players with quality facilities. The club were about the launch an appeal to raise funds that can be put towards grant from the Football Foundation for an Astroturf on Lees Field.
In Mark’s memory the family are asking that any donations for Mark should go to AFC Urmston Meadowside to help fund a new AstroTurf pitch by supporting Marks passion for grassroots football to enrich the lives of thousands of local children so his legacy continues.
