Mark Maselli's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah Moore and I am fundraising, along with family, for our brother-in-law Mark and his beautiful family. Please take a moment to read Mark's story below and consider donating if you can! We all know that big things take a village of support!
Message from Mark:
Hello friends, family, and friends of family. I humbly ask that you take a moment to read my story and consider donating in my family’s time of need. In 2018, I felt a sharp pain in my side and after a few days of being stubborn I went to the doctor to get it checked out. I was immediately admitted to the hospital and had CT scans, bloodwork, ultrasounds, and several other tests and it was determined I had Polycystic Kidney Disease aka PKD. This is a hereditary disease that has plagued my family for generations with my grandma, mom, uncles, and many others having it. With this condition, it is not a matter of IF but WHEN your kidneys will eventually fail and measures will need to be taken. Since 2018, my kidney function has dropped from 25% down to as low as 14% and Dialysis was a real possibility. In July 2022, I made a desperate plea for a live donor on Facebook that was then shared over 15 times. August 2022, I was told I have a match. It has taken a little over a year of ups and downs but here we are, the moment of truth. I will be receiving the gift of life from a beautiful person willing to donate a healthy kidney to me, so that I may be able to continue to live a joyous and fulfilling life.
Transplant recovery will require a solid month where my wife Ashley will need assistance which we will have with a rotating crew of family. My gracious sister-in-law has set up a meal train to help with food, so these things are now known. What is not known are all the medical expenses and extra costs that we will bear. I have insurance and medical leave through work, but as anyone who has had a medical procedure, some things just don’t get covered. If you can find it in your heart to lend a hand and/or share this story so others may also do so, my family and I would be forever grateful.
Love,
Mark, Ashley, Rosario and Rocco
