The Mark McClenahan Scholarships
On November 3, 2018, after a brief and unexpected illness, Mark Thomas McClenahan- husband, father, brother and friend- left this world behind for the next one.
Mark McClenahan was definitively Irish, proudly Marine, fiercely loving, undeniably charismatic and the best darn Subaru salesman to be found. He lived his passions: sports of all kinds (as evidenced by a garage full of equipment and the nightly yelling at ESPN sportscasters); fashion (ahem, drawers of color print socks and racks of baseball caps- to be worn backward, of course); and helping others.
Most of Mark’s generosity went unnoted: Christmas gifts for families in need, shoveled sidewalks for unsuspecting neighbors, an open door for handfuls of troubled teenagers, routine donations to charity, and peanuts for all the squirrels and raccoons on the north side of town.
We, as a family and community, can choose to keep Mark alive and present with us by continuing his enthusiasm for giving.
Let’s join forces to continue Mark’s passion for helping young artists.
Mark was an accomplished hockey referee and a dedicated advocate of his wife Betsy’s work in the world of dance and theater. With this in mind, this scholarship will provide young performing artists with the financial support to participate in dance or theatre classes, purchase much-needed pointe shoes and take Master Classes throughout the U.S.
The Mark McClenahan Scholarship is not in memorial of Mark, but rather in celebration of his life well lived.
We invite you to contribute to the Mark McClenahan Scholarships as a testament to his dynamic character and tireless spirit of generosity.
Thank you, and be sure to keep in touch as we award and follow scholarship recipients!
