Mark Osborne Memorial Fund
Donation protected
On Thursday, May 20th our community lost dear friend and colleague Mark Osborne. Mark, a bicyclist, was struck by an alleged drunk driver near Sebastopol on Wednesday May 12th and died of his injuries May 20th. While we all continue to process his tragic loss, we wanted to share more about this man who has been an integral part of our crew and community for over 14 years, and hopefully inspire you to join us in carrying on his legacy of supporting the cycling and outdoor communities for future generations.
Mark Osborne Remembered in the Wine Spectator
Originally from Australia, his passion for the wine industry came as a second career after he worked as a mail carrier into his 30s. He went back to school to study winemaking and came to Sonoma County as an intern at Gary Farrell Winery in 2007 and has been with us ever since. Having been an intern himself, Mark gladly shared his depth of knowledge and passion for wine with those around him and in turn inspired and nurtured the growth of countless interns and members of the Gary Farrell production crew through the years.
Gary Farrell Winery Tribute to Enologist Mark Osborne
While many of us in the wine industry remember Mark for his dedication to producing incredible wines, it’s his passion for the outdoors and cycling that we ask you to support through a donation to his memorial fund. Both of these causes were incredibly near and dear to Mark.

HELP US SUPPORT: Friends of Trione - Annedel
Of all the activities Mark loved, (like flying a plane, skiing, travelling, hiking volcanoes, kayaking, fixing up houses, beer drinking) mountain biking was the one he was most passionate about, and having such an incredible park and community to ride with just outside his door was the best thing about living in Santa Rosa. This deep-seated passion was infectious, inspiring his life partner Tracy to learn to ride and run on the trails of Trione-Annedel, and inspiring others during his numerous adventures riding with his club throughout the west.
50% of all donations will go directly to the Friends of Trione Annadel, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the health of Mark’s treasured local state park.
HELP US SUPPORT: Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition
Mark wanted to make Sonoma County a better place, and making it more bike-friendly was a part of his vision. Mark and Tracy both joined the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, a grassroots organization dedicated to cyclist’s rights and safety. Mark lent his voice to local, regional, state and national calls for legislation that funds bicycle infrastructure and improves safety for all riders. Both Tracy and Mark would attend city council meetings and meetings of the Board of Supervisors whenever action was needed on an item that could have an impact on safe cycling.
Bike Sonoma Tribute to Mark
The remaining 50% of all donations will go to the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition in Mark’s name to continue his vision for a safer Sonoma County for all cyclists.
100% of donations to Mark Osborne’s Memorial fund will be divided equally between these two causes. The fund is being managed by Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery through an account setup solely to accept these donations and will be distributed to both non profits in Mark Osborne’s name.
If you choose to make a donation directly to one of the causes Mark was so passionate about, please do so in his name.
