Mark and I met in 2002. I hadn't believed in love at first sight before, but we started talking and just never stopped!
A year later,  a tornado left his town devastated. He was mayor at the time, so it was non-stop, side-by-side work for the second year of our relationship. I had known already, but that made it obvious we were going to spend the rest of our lives together.
In 2004, I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer and given less than a year to live.  Mark was there, by my side, through round after round of chemo and radiation, and multiple surgeries.  There were a few years in the middle when I had minimal treatment and Mark and I got to be mostly normal people, parenting our three daughters from my first marriage, McKelvie, Nicole, and Mattie. Since 2015, my health has been declining as we played "Whack-a-Mole" with my cancer. Mark never complained about caring for me, even coming home from work multiple times a day to check on me.
In March, 2019, the tables turned. On the same day our fourth grandchild was born, Mark was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. He needed surgery, but was not healthy enough to survive the surgery.  So, we prayed.  His health improved, as mine declined further.
On June 7th, I was admitted to Mercy Joplin for A. Fib. During the next week, we talked on the phone multiple times daily, and Mark visited me when he could. I was discharged on Saturday, June 13th.  Mark had a heart attack in his sleep during the early-morning hours of June 14th.  Our worlds were changed forever.
We had paid for a life insurance policy for a couple years, but finally had to stop it because we just couldn't afford it any longer. My Social Security Disability doesn't cover the bills as it is less than $700 a month. Buchanan Funeral Home has been very gracious, but they need to be paid!
Funds raised will go to pay final expenses and immediate needs. Surplus donations will go towards my own final expenses, as my battle with cancer nears its end.
