Mark Price was severely injured in an auto accident near Rosarito, Mexico on Sunday night, October 11th. His car was run off the road by another driver, rolled and landed on the hood. The accident occurred sometime between 8:00 and 9:00 pm and was trapped in his vehicle until he was rescued at approximately 3:30 am. His daughter Haley was called early Monday afternoon by the Red Cross in Mexico to inform her of the accident. Mark's longtime friend, Ed, was then called and he along with Father Ron facilitated his transfer to the UC San Diego Hospital.
Emergency surgery was performed on his left hand Monday night in an attempt to save two of the severely injured fingers. His pointer finger and ring finger were amputated. The thumb and middle finger were reattached with wire and we are praying that they will be functional and not require amputation. His left forearm also sustained several breaks up to the elbow. He has a fractured rib, a compression fracture in his lower spine and one of the main arteries in his neck was also damaged.
Four of his vertebrae in the neck were fractured and the plan is to fuse all seven vertebrae which will leave him with limited mobility. Surgery on his cervical spine is scheduled for Thursday. He is also facing additional surgeries on his left hand.
Please pray for the successful outcome of the surgeries Mark is facing in the weeks ahead and the months of occupational therapy and recovery. Financial help is also needed to cover ambulance and medical costs, occupational therapy, housing, personal bills and transportation.
Updates regarding Mark's recovery will be posted as they are available.
