Mark Romero Fund

Meet Mark Romero, a dedicated husband to his high school sweetheart, Kristi, and father to their two beautiful children, Brevan (17) and Kyla (15). A life-long resident of the Four Corners region, Mark moved from Durango to Farmington 15 years ago when he was hired as a code compliance officer for the City of Farmington; this division is now under the Farmington Police Department where Mark continues to work.  

Mark loves his community, enjoys working with the public and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. You might have seen him highlighted in the local paper for helping clean up yards of elderly and disabled citizens, which he does on an annual basis. Mark also coaches his sister and daughter's youth basketball teams in Durango and Farmington, as he understands the positive impact team sports can have on youth.

Mark was recently diagnosed with hydrocephalus caused by a previous brain injury. Hydrocephalus is the buildup of fluid in the cavities (ventricles) deep within the brain. The excess fluid increases the size of the ventricles and puts pressure on the brain. Cerebrospinal fluid normally flows through the ventricles and bathes the brain and spinal column, but the pressure of too much cerebrospinal fluid associated with hydrocephalus can damage brain tissues and cause a range of impairments in brain function.

Mark will be undergoing surgery on June 8 and will remain in the hospital for three to five days following surgery with an estimated six to eight week recovery time. He will require annual check-ups for the rest of his life.
