Help Fund Mark’s Brittle Bones Powered Wheelchair
Donation protected
My name is Mark and I am 33 years old. I live in the Lancashire area and was born with severe Osteogenesis Imperfecta also known as Brittle Bones OI. OI is a genetic bone disorder, characterised by fragile bones-this causes my bones to break easily even without trauma.
Due to my disability, I rely fully on the use of a highly specialised powered wheelchair. This enables me to remain mobile and independent for as long as possible. I currently have a power-chair which was originally funded primarily through the charity Action for Kids.
I have had a “good run” with my current wheelchair but sadly, it no longer meets my complex needs and it has become uncomfortable and unsafe, resulting in me having to fundraise for a replacement.
Prior to my current wheelchair (Quantum 4 front), I used a Balder F280 power-chair for almost 10 years. This was a fantastic wheelchair which accommodated my mobility needs and provided me with great comfort and support, easing in the process some of the highly debilitating aspects of my condition.
Unfortunately, my current wheelchair no longer provides me with the optimum support I need. It is now causing me significant back and neck pain. Using my current wheelchair has now become a painful, uncomfortable and bumpy process, detrimental to my severe brittle bones.
Due to the reasons stated above, I am left with no other options but to rely on the generosity of benefactors to help me fund a replacement powered wheelchair. The Balder F280 would meet all my needs due to its durability, stability, and reliability. It has highly specialised features such as rise and fall, tilt and space and an adapted lock and dock system for my adapted vehicle.
The use of a specialist powered wheelchair in my life would give me more independence and enable me to live a more normal life. It could mean the difference between being confined to my bed or having a little bit of freedom that others take for granted.
I cannot obtain the wheelchair I need through the NHS and will need to raise the necessary funds from Charitable Trusts and individual generous donations.
I would be grateful for everyone's support and any generous donations towards the cost of a new highly specialised indoor/outdoor powered wheelchair which will be selected after assessment by a qualified medical professional.
Another Balder F280 power-chair will cost approximately £20,275.00
All donations will be held through my GoFundMe page until they are transferred directly to the wheelchair supplier.
In anticipation, thank you for everyone’s support.
