Market Hog Charity Auction In Memory Of Rhonda J Norman

My History- My name is Nolan Norman. I am 17 years old going into my senior year of high school. I have been a part of 4-H for as long as I can remember. I have been taking market hogs to the Lorain County Fairgrounds for 7 years. I have also been a part of the Junior Fair Board in which I am an executive member and an assistant chair in 3 departments.

Why a Charity Auction- My mother, Rhonda J Norman passed away this year on April 1st from pancreatic cancer. My mother fought for almost a year, first battling the initial pancreatic cancer which she had a Whipple surgery to remove. Unfortunately, this surgery left her too weak to be able to go through chemo. This allowed the cancer to spread to her liver. At this point we were made aware that she only had years to live, in reality she had 3 months. I thought my mother would at least be able to see me graduate college, but she couldn't even see me graduate my junior year.

Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research- only 1 out of every 5 people who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer receive their diagnosis before its fatal. Lustgarten puts 100% of all donations towards their research, specifically their research on the beginning signs of pancreatic cancer. Since 1998 they have invested over $ 282 million dollars into the research of this terrible disease.

What's Going to be Donated- All money spent on my pigs comes out of my pocket in order to not lose money I will take exactly what I need to be able to break even, I have kept extremely detailed logs of every dollar spent. After that 100% of what is left will go directly to the Lustgarten foundation.
