To summarize our petition for those that don't want to read all the info-
Market of Choice is a local grocery store chain in Oregon. Market of Choice came out in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. They publicly stated on all social media that they stand with the black community. The CEO stated, "We support our black team members, customers, and vendors and do not tolerate racial bias, discrimination, or injustice in our stores or in our community." We encourage you to read their public statement on social media platforms. Employees have expressed concern after this post because there was a lack of action being taken in stores and in the community. Employees offered multiple ideas such as collaborating with a local artist to create a "corporate approved" design displaying solidarity with what the company has already stated. Many employees wearing Black Lives Matter apparel were told that it went against company dress code and were told to remove it. We have been in contact with the corporate team and have been unable to get any written guidelines about said policy. We have also been denied any communication with the corporate team that is making these decisions. About 50 employees statewide decided to walk out of their shift in solidarity with the movement. There have been multiple resignations with a store manager being fired over the issue. We're creating this GoFundMe to buy more Black Lives Matter apparel for the community and employees which is directly benefiting a Eugene local Black student union. We will also be using these funds for normal organizer things- like water, snacks and sunscreen. Funds may also be directed to employees that have walked out in solidarity with the movement- focusing primarily on employees of color and those that do not come from a place of privilege.
