Mark's fight against two Brain Tumors
Donation protected
I am Mark Williams's Daughter, Angela and I am currently helping raise some funds for my Dad. Over the course of two months, my dad started experiencing dizziness, headaches, vision loss, memory loss, and lastly the ability to work on his projects. He knew something wasn't right when he couldn't figure out how to change the tire of his truck. The last two or three days before flying to Juneau and heading straight to the ER was scary for him as well as his family. He declined rapidly in just a few days leading up to his visit to the ER. When he checked into the clinic it was thought he was experiencing strokes but once testing was done it was found that he has two tumors the size of golf balls on the right side of his brain. Once he was stabilized in Juneau he was sent a medivac to Anchorage where he could be cared for by specialists like his neurologist. It is believed that he has Gliboblastoma, a stage 4 brain cancer. It is the most dangerous brain cancer. When we spoke to the neurologist he stated that with Gliboblastomas' it could be 2 months or it could be 2 years with treatment. On Tuesday, January 17th he had a craniotomy performed so a biopsy of the tumor could be taken to confirm the neurologist's suspicions. These results will also give us a better idea of the treatment he will need and a better picture of his time left with us.
My parents will need a lot of help. Regardless of the outcome and results, the two tumors wreaked havoc on his brain and left him unable to live life independently. Right now he currently still experiences dizziness, some speech impairment, left-side weakness and numbness, as well as slow response signals to the left side. So it takes him a little bit to tell the left side what to do. The left-side impairments could improve but only time will tell. The neurologist said that when you have tumors on the right side it will generally affect the right side. They also jumbled that right side by going in for a biopsy, but the biopsy was absolutely necessary.
With everything that has happened, I am helping raise money so they can make many accommodations to their home, travel for appointments, bills, and fix their vehicle so my mom can drive my dad. One of my dad's wishes is to first make it home and then drive around the town, see his buddies, and take in a lifetime of memories. My parents are not one to ask for help, in fact, they still won't ask for help in this time of need so we are thankful for all of those who have reached out asking how they can help. Although I am in Juneau, my brother is in Haines and he will be helping get everything fixed and ready for my dad. We are also asking for continued prayers, prayers for more time with our dad and prayers for him to heal.
