Marks Backpacks for the Homeless

Marks Backpacks is a family-run project that has worked to collect necessary hygiene and winter supply items for individuals experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC since 2015. What originally started as a project in memorial has turned into something much larger. Marks Backpacks has branched into a community effort, which now delivers in-person and virtual presentations to local high school classrooms and clubs to provide thorough information regarding lack of housing, poverty, and contributing factors.

As donations are collected, backpacks are put together for each recipient. Each bag includes clothing items, hygiene items, blankets and outdoor supplies, and various others (for a complete list, please visit our website). The family distributes bags throughout Washington, DC. Each member is additionally provided a meal and water if desired.
