Helping Marla Hansen Martin Fight Multiple Myeloma - A Journey of Hope
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Supporters,
My name is Houston J. Hansen, and I am reaching out to you today with a plea for help and assistance for my mother, Marla Hansen Martin, who is facing an extraordinary challenge. Marla has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a formidable form of cancer.
She is an amazing person, and as a family, we are determined to do everything in our power to support her in this difficult time.
The Diagnosis:
This past July, our lives were turned upside down when Marla received the heartbreaking diagnosis of multiple myeloma, a rare and aggressive cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow, compromising her immune system and overall health.
Despite the immense physical and emotional toll, my mom has shown incredible strength and resilience, and she is on the offensive with an unwavering spirit.
The Journey of Hope:
Marla Hansen Martin is not just a mother but also a cherished friend, a compassionate mentor, and a pillar of strength in the communities she had been a part of over the years. She has touched the lives of so many, always offering a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need.
Now, it is our turn to extend the same kindness and support to her.
As she undergoes treatments and therapy sessions, we want to ensure that she has the best possible care and access to medical advancements. This is where your generosity and contributions become invaluable. Your donations will help Marla in her fight against multiple myeloma and provide her with the resources necessary for a comprehensive treatment plan.
The Requests for Help:
We understand that any help you can provide, whether big or small, will make a difference in Marla's life. Here are some ways your contribution will assist her in this journey:
* Medical Expenses: The cost of cancer treatment can be overwhelming, and we want to ensure Marla receives the best medical care without any financial burden. She is blessed to have health coverage, but not everything is fully covered.
* Supportive Therapies: Beyond medical treatments, there are complimentary therapies that can aid Marla in managing pain, stress, and maintaining a positive outlook during her battle. There are nutritional supplements and a certified cancer nutritionist that may help her battle this cancer with whole foods and additional nutrients. Marla needs groceries delivered and assistance with meal prep since she is having to use a walker. Acupuncture, massage, myofascial release, EESystems, and other treatments are integrative and assist with the side effects of chemotherapy.
* A cooling cap, a wig and scarves: Marla’s type of cancer treatment will cause hair loss which is concerning to her. She has decided she would like to try wearing a cooling cap before, during and after treatment to delay/reduce full hair loss and a wig when/if this occurs. Scarves may also be needed.
* Daily Living Support: Because of the fractures in L1 and L3 vertebrae and as Marla's condition progresses, she needs assistance with daily activities. Your contributions will help us arrange for home care and provide a comfortable living environment. Additionally, since she is unable to drive because of the condition of her spine, pelvis and thigh, there will be times she needs transportation outside of what we, her children, can provide. Her new friends I’m Carlsbad have been stepping up the past few weeks but will not be available long term and she doesn’t qualify for ACS Road to Recovery program because of her need for a walker.
* Emotional Support: Facing cancer is an emotional rollercoaster, and we want Marla to know that she is surrounded by love and support. Your encouraging messages and well-wishes will uplift her spirits during tough times.
* Moving: Unfortunately, Marla has to move out of her beloved Carlsbad condo at the end of September due to the landlord’s mother moving in. We have yet to make the decision whether Marla will stay in the San Diego area which is where Lexi is attending UCSD, return north to live near Houston in Monterey, or go to live near Dustin and his family in the Sacramento area. We may need assistance with packing, moving and unpacking.
* Disability: Marla is in the process of applying for disability, yet it is expected to take 5 months to 2 years to receive. Her doctor has suggested her hiring a disability lawyer to assist as disability is difficult to get. This financial insecurity is forefront in her mind. She needs to focus her energy on healing so we are hoping to reduce this concern.
Conclusion:
In times of adversity, the strength of a community truly shines through. We are reaching out to you, our extended family and friends, to rally together and support Marla Hansen Martin in her courageous fight against multiple myeloma. Your kindness and generosity will make a significant impact on her journey of hope, ensuring she can focus on healing and regaining her health.
Please consider donating and sharing this fundraiser with others who may also wish to contribute to this noble cause.
Together, we can provide Marla with the strength she needs to battle multiple myeloma and show her that she is not alone in this fight.
From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for being a beacon of hope for my mother Marla.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Houston and the Hansen/Martin Family
