MARLENE COLEMAN - EULOGY
It was a great shock to us all to hear that Marlene Coleman tragically died on Wednesday 16th June 2021.
Marlene worked for Eurostar for over 20 years, in various roles starting from working in the Assistance team in the early days before becoming a Platform team member and eventually becoming a Train Dispatcher, one of the first women to do so, at London St Pancras International.
Marlene was kind, caring, outgoing, extrovert and larger than life. She knew everybody and everybody seemed to know her. She had a big personality.
Every day, she would greet her work colleagues with a loud ‘afternoooooon’ in that distinctive but lovable Jamaican accent that would echo around you as she would always ensure she checked how everyone was before starting her daily work duties.
Marlene also had a mischievous sense of humour and infectious laughter. However down you were feeling, you could guarantee that Marlene would bring a smile to your face and brighten your day. She was a valuable and much loved member of the team and the organisation.
Anyone who knew Marlene knows that she had two great loves - her two sisters, residing in America (in particular one called Pamela who she would call twice a day) and her beloved native country - Jamaica.
Sadly , Marlene’s life was tragically cut short just days before she was due to return there on holiday. Those of us who were fortunate enough to see her just before she was due to travel, know how excited she was to be travelling. She couldn’t be happier returning there having had to postpone her trip from last year due to coronavirus.
Marlene always planned to continue her career here at Eurostar until her retirement. She often spoke of eventually settling back “home” in Jamaica when she retired which was always her dream. A dream which Marlene was sadly not able to realise.
It is Marlene’s family’s wish that a memorial ceremony take place here in the UK to allow friends and acquaintances here to remember her and celebrate her life before laying her to rest in her beloved Jamaica.
Please help the family to achieve this by making any donations you can, no matter how small, using the following GoFund Me link in memory of Marlene to give her the send off she deserves.
Thank you all very much in advance
Marlene will be greatly missed by us all but never forgotten.
May her soul rest in peace.
