Marlla's BOOBS ♡

Hi, I’m Marlla, a transdisciplinary artist, 28-year-old trans woman from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, currently living in Brussels, Belgium. I’m reaching out to ask for your support at a very important moment in my life. As part of my gender transition, I’m seeking to undergo gender affirmation surgery (breast augmentation), a crucial step to feel comfortable in my own body and fully live my truth. Unfortunately, the cost of this surgery is very high and currently out of my reach. In Brazil, the public health system does not provide the necessary support to ensure that this surgery can be done quickly, safely, and with dignity for trans people. I believe that breast surgery is not an aesthetic matter, but an essential step for my mental health, well-being, and happiness. With your help, I’ll be able to take this important step towards feeling more aligned with who I truly am. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference. If you can’t contribute financially, sharing this campaign is also a very valuable form of support. I’m deeply grateful for the support and solidarity!

With love, obrigada!

ABOUT MARLLA:
Marlla is a 28-year-old artist from the favelas on the west side of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She began her artistic journey at the Escola Livre de Dança da Maré under the artistic direction of renowned choreographer Lia Rodrigues, pursued dance teaching studies at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and co-founded Grupo Atiro, a theater group born from her experience with the NGO Redes da Maré.

Since then, Marlla has performed internationally, dancing from Paris to Brussels and Porto, sharing the stage with world-renowned artists and presenting her work at festivals such as Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels and the Autumn Festival in Paris. She has taken part in significant artistic exchanges at the Centre National de la Danse in Paris and La Manufacture school in Lausanne. Her international experience includes performing in Maguy Marin's "May B" in France, the 220 Volts festival in Porto, and her solo at the Autumn Festival in Paris. She holds a Bachelor and a Master degree in dance from P.A.R.T.S. She is also part of the Brussels Ballroom Voguing scene and leads workshops on Twerk and Improvisation in the city.

Her work deeply explores physicality, body endurance, and the interplay between political-personal and social contexts. She is committed to creating narratives that blend fiction and reality, offering fresh perspectives for the future. She considers her art a weapon for challenging societal norms and creating new narratives for marginalized voices. Through her performances, Marlla invites us to envision a more utopic world, blending body pedagogy, queer phenomenology, and social justice with love, humor, irony, and empowerment".
