Maroochy River Lift Span Bridge Project

Donation protected
Hi my name is Clive Plater and I am the President of the Nambour Museum in Queensland. During the February 2022 floods the former Moreton Mill’s tramline lift span bridge across the Maroochy River was substantially washed away. The Queensland Government plans to remove the remnants by June 2023. Approximately 2 years ago the lift section was removed by the government as it was in danger of collapse and block navigation. Nambour Museum have inspected the removed items and have offered to accommodate and preserve the 9 metre x 2 metre lift span, 6 pulley wheels and sections of hand rail provided we can raise the funding.

The estimated cost of the project is $30,000 plus $10,000 in our volunteers time. If you feel this project is worthwhile please help us by donating to our cause and make representations to your respective Councillors, State or Federal MPs.

We are obviously in contact with them but a show of ground support and community backing by donations will help them push our case for funding.

Next year (2023) is the 20th anniversary of the sugar mill closing and Nambour Museum is planning an event to mark the occasion in October. The intent is to have this project completed for an official unveiling at the anniversary event so an early start is essential.

Thank you for helping us to preserve this important part of our local history, future generations will reap the benefit of what we do today!
