I've known I was transgender since I was 14 years old. Since then I have come so far in my journey, and I have been on HRT for almost two years and living completely as a man for over 3 years.
The next step in my journey is to get FTM top surgery. This is partly due to my gender dysphoria caused by my chest, but I also have experienced quite a few medical problems due to my chest combined with chest binding and HRT. HRT has caused a flare up in acne breakouts which has included painful acne on my chest as well as incredibly painful boils that specifically show up underneath my breasts. I'm sorry to get so graphic, but I don't know any other way to describe how much this surgery would change my life.
I also have experienced almost daily back pain and rib pain due to daily chest binding for over 5 years. There have been transgender men who have experience deformed ribs due to binding for long periods of time. I have experienced rib bruising due to binding while dancing/performing.
As a musical theatre major, I can't stop performing due to my chest pain, but I also have to bind my chest to avoid crippling dysphoria in public.
This surgery would absolutely change my life as a transgender man. It is the last step I believe I need to truly feel like myself in my body.
Currently the $6000 is an estimate to account for travelling expenses as well as hospital fees, consultation fees, insurance deductibles, and coinsurance payments. I may update this listing when I get more details about exactly how much I need to raise.
