Marsha Skoog, Mesothelioma Journey
Donation protected
Marsha has been diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Here is her story she wrote to share on her Caringbridge page.
I went to my physical July 7th and complained about shortness of breath bending over to tie my shoe and climbing stairs which haven't been an issue in the past. My doctor ordered a same day X-ray that showed a white swath on my right lung. Several CT Scans later it revealed lung atelectasis (collapse) with pleural effusion. About a week later a thoracentesis produced 12 oz of fluid which tested negative for fungal or cancerous cells. A thorascopic surgery performed 12/3/2020 revealed Malignant mesothelioma of pleura right lung. The surgeon was going to scrap scar tissue and couldn't because the mesothelioma was too far advanced so I ended up with just a biopsy. I have just finished my second round of chemotherapy on January 7. I will receive my third treatment on 1/28/2021. The treatment that I'm receiving is called Premetrexed (Alimta), cisplatin, Avastin(MVASI). I've learned that it takes several weeks to feel better after the treatments. The first week following the treatment is the toughest. I have a Mayo Clinic appointment coming up in February which I'm looking forward to. Maybe there will be a trial study that I can participate in to fight this disease. Thank you for your prayers. I'm practicing positive affirmations, prayers, juicing, yoga, meditation, getting outside to move, and trying to eat healthier. Friends and family are lifting my spirits and have made me feel determined to do whatever I can to beat this. Thank you.
