Hi, My name is Hop and I’m setting up this fundraiser to assist my family with funeral cost and other expenses for my father. He passed away on April 29, 2021 from a hit and run occurred in Somerville Ma. Please help me honor my father and support for a proper service to lay him to rest.

“Marshall” Mac is a great man especially a wonderful loving father, grandfather, and husband. The most important thing to him is family, and he enjoys seeing us happy and be successful in life.

A back story of my kind loving father and family:

He served in the Navy for South Vietnam during the Vietnam War, fighting for our freedom along side with the United States of America against communism. My father had to overcome many struggles in life through war and also as a Prisoner of War for 6 years.

After his release from the Vietnam prison, my father had to endure the pain to leave his country to give his family a better life. The journey to America for a dream of freedom was not easy, he was able to get us on a wooden boat with other Vietnamese families without a fee to the owner as he knew how to navigate the seas. Pirates had taken everything that was on the boat from food, water, and the boat’s engine; leaving us to die at sea. The boat was drifting for 10 days and in order for us to survive, salt water was boiled to get the steam for minimal drinking.

Hope was all lost, suddenly at a far distant another ship was able to see us flagged them down. Our family including others were shedding tears of joy, initially this was a sign of savior but... fearing the worst it was another ship here to take what little we still have which are shirts on our backs. Since we had nothing left, they were going to leave us to die just like the first ship. We prayed and begged for food and to take us to land.

After they saw what we have been through, they had a change of heart and allow us to board their ship. Within minutes of climbing aboard, the rotted severely damaged wooden boat that we were on split in half. We were grateful of them to help and save our lives that day.

Landing in Thailand gave everyone hopes of survival. My family lived in the refugee camp for a couple of years where I was born and my family was later sponsored to migrate to the United States in 1984. My father’s birth name [Son Dangson Mac] changed his name to Marshall Dangson Mac when he became a U.S. Citizen.

No matter the struggles we have been through, my father was there to give us a better life. He is love and we are thankful for all he has given us. You are now in a better place. Rest in Peace Dad. We love you so much Ba! January 03, 1949 to April 29, 2021.
