Marshall Price Memorial & Justice Fund

On December 8, Marshall Price died in the custody of the Greene County Jail in Arkansas. He died suffering in a jail that he should have never set foot in, to begin with. He died serving the beginning of a 10-year sentence for possession of a mere tea leaf powder that was purchased legally three miles down the road. As the community was starting to do everything they could to get him out, his sister Sheena got the call Thursday at 1:47 am from somebody at the Greene County Jail Administration saying Marshall had “bumped his head,” was in the hospital and that "it didn't look good."

Later, his family would find out that Marshall had died with extensive injuries- fractured skull, ruptured spleen, several severely broken ribs, and brain swelling, ultimately leading him into cardiac arrest. Even the coroner who spoke with Marshall’s family called the death “suspicious.”

While the sheriff’s office has not released an official statement beyond the fact that Marshall died while in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. Their initial response to Sheena was that Marshall fainted and hit his head, most likely on a bunk, was patched up and quickly sent back to his pod. They claimed that when Marshall’s heart started to decelerate, the ambulance was called in, and they took him to the hospital. This story does not account for Marshall being taken out by the ambulance from the jail medical, not his cell. They are awaiting further action as the state police will be taking over the case.

His fellow inmates are doing everything they can to get their version of the story told. Inmates reported Marshall was initially taken out of the pod Wednesday around 11 am after what sounded like someone was fighting and found Marshall “having a heart attack or something.” He had hit his head on what they thought was the steel bunk, was incoherent and did not know who he was. Jail staff only came in after an inmate hit the emergency button to call for help. Jail staff took Marshall out of the pod for about 20 minutes and then returned to his pod. At this time, the inmates reported Marshall was not in good condition. They say Marshall was made to suffer for over 6 hours after being sent back. It wasn’t until about 5:30 pm when the emergency button was hit for a second time, and Marshall was “almost dead,” the jail staff returned to check on him. The jail staff then decided to come in and lock down the pod, wasting time talking to an incoherent and failing Marshall instead of immediately calling an ambulance. It’s reported that not until Marshall was dead did the jail staff call the ambulance. We are told inmates pleaded to get Marshall help while he lay suffering, dying during these six dreadful hours, all to no avail. It’s also been reported that instead of helping a man in need, the pod was locked down, drug dogs brought in, and everyone was searched for drugs. Inmates vehemently say this was not the cause of Marshall’s death.

We want answers!

We want to know what happened to Marshall!

We want the people involved to be held accountable for his death!

We want the nonsensical kratom ban to be overturned in Arkansas, so people can freely and safely consume this life-saving plant medicine that Marshall's family knows SAVED HIS LIFE!

We want his original wrongful conviction to be appealed and overturned!

WE WANT JUSTICE FOR MARSHALL AND HIS FAMILY!

The family has hired legal counsel and will be pursuing all available legal recourse to hold everyone accountable. We will have justice! In the meantime, a wake will be held for Marshall on Sunday, Dec. 11th (details below). This fund is to have all funeral, memorial, and vigil costs associated with Marshall Price’s untimely death paid for. The family said the cost would be about $800, but we, the community that stands behind Marshall and his family, can do much better for them!

We can show them just how many people are on their side!

Again, this fund is for the funeral and memorial expenses and a “make some noise fund!” We want the family to have enough to hold regular candlelight vigils, memorials, protests, banners, yard signs, make media appearances, etc.

We will not go away.

We will not be silenced.

We will have justice.

We are sounding the alarm.

Marshall Ray Price, 46, of Paragould, passed from this life on Thursday, December 8, 2022. He was born on September 30, 1976, to the late Major Price and Sharon Rivera. Marshall graduated from Greene County Tech High School in 1994. At that time, he had a passion for golf. As time continued, he transferred that passion to fishing. Marshall spent many years as a bartender and managing bars.

Marshall is survived by his children, Mallory Hobbs of Paragould, Julian Jones of Jonesboro, Brennon Price of Mt. Home, Brayden Price of Jonesboro, and Braxton Price of Mammoth Spring; mother, Sharon Rivera; sisters, Wathena (David) Howell of Beech Grove and Sheena Palmer of Paragould; brother, Larry Milburn of Marmaduke; three grandchildren and one on the way; the mother of his children, Wendy Price of Mammoth Spring, Jeni Hodge of Rockwall, Texas, and Amy Carmichael of Caraway; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Wake will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2022, at 1 PM at the VFW, 300 Airport Rd, Jonesboro, AR 72405.
