RIP Martin Morgan who passed away on the 07/07/23 due to delayed diagnosis and treatments. He fought a battle that took only 23 days in total of entering the hospital on the 12/06/23 until death on the 07/07/23. We lost his weekly earnings from been advised from his social worker who the hospital assigned to him while he was there. At no point were we advised that he had malignant cancer we only got that information at the end of october that year, just how advanced the cancer was and they had missed a window of opportunity to save his life. We are sorry now more than anything that we took for granted what our social services and hospital advised us at that time, as for the social worker who advised him that he needed to change from the jobseekers benefit to illness benefit, but a loophole saw him not entitled to this as he had not worked for 2 years prior to illness and as he was a qualified chef as we know due to COVID these sectors of food and catering were not open to people of this nature of work so the illness benefit for them not available, then we were advised to go on the basic supplementary welfare that we would not be down anything with this however with all the rig ma roll they done and they don't backdate this we only got 1 payment on the day he died and that was it. They sure as hell do not make things easy for anyone. after our dad died we were led a merry go round as to funding we were and weren't entitled to which has seen us struggle these past 12 months for our mother who is not getting anything for me until i return to college and will lose for my twin sisters now in 2 weeks till they go back to school. Everyone thinks that life just keeps going forward but for some it not that easy as my mam suffers with fibromyalgia which at best she can do small walks with the aid of her crutches as she also has a cyst compressing on her lower spine that no will touch as could leave her with paralysis and wheelchair bound. The amount of pain that she does be in sees her have what are called flare ups that will see her not been able to even get out of bed, but she will still try to push through as my dad not here to support her anymore and this we have really started to notice when she needs to go to hospital as sometimes has had to cancel appointments as funds to cover travel expenses as she lost her travel card and benefits when she was advised to move from the disability benefit to the widow's pension even though she still has the same disabilities. She had since been told that the information she got in the beginning was lies and to get these benefits back she would need to appeal about which she did and was has heard nothing back.
So here i am with what can help get an early diagnosis for someone with Cancer of the oesophagus
Barretts of the oesophagus
Ulcer (all kinds)
Hernia (all kinds)
probs swallowing
Choking ( that leads to vomiting)
Clamminess to skin
Black eyes/ grey skin
Lack of appetite
sudden weight loss
Anemia (never had it before)
Pain in your back
Numbness in the legs sometimes
Shortness of breathe
Long/walking Covid
fatigue (but not been able to sleep due to pain)
been advised to take a cough bottle for a persistant cough that just will not go away

If we had to have been made aware of this we may have been able to save my dads life so i hope that can help others and stop it from happening to anyone close to you. So don't just go by the 1st opinion you get if the symptoms persist you are entitled to have as many you want till you get the correct diagnosis care and treatment. so don't become a victim of circumstance it up to you to get the correct sort of treatment that sometimes a doctor can miss as we were told when asked how come his cancer was missed we were told it was because they weren't looking for it.
