Critical Emergency Surgery for Martina Hoffmann !

Hello my friends and family!

Life on the Osa Peninsula in Cabo Matapalo is full of surprises as we all know, yet this one leaves me a little shaken. I know many of you are wondering why I am closing my restaurant Buena Esperanza a month early and on such short notice. My Friends I need your help, my right lung has herniated and torn, and my liver has pushed into the opening. Cheese and Rice.

I have had a worsening cough in the last two months and have been taking several different antibiotics on Doctors orders, and I haven’t seen any improvement. It’s been a little scary to not be able to catch my breath. So last week my Doctor sent me to San Jose to see a specialist and have some testing. 48 hours, many blood tests and CT scans later, it turns out this is not some super tough virus, but a real emergency situation that is life threatening and must be addressed immediately. A really freaking complicated surgery of 3-5 hours, I will have to spend a day or two in intensive care, plus 4 more in the hospital room, intubated with all sorts of tubing. If I show satisfactory improvement by then, I will then be discharged and have been instructed to stay another 7 days near the hospital in San Jose.

Believe me I tested the specialist”s patience; I don’t have the money, I have a restaurant to run, can’t I postpone this.... Firmly he restated, the tear in my lung will continue to get worse with every additional cough and could collapse or become infected at any time or my intestines will make their entrance. Mind Blown.

I have health Insurance through the CAJA, Costa Rica’s socialized medicine. But the waiting list is 3 to 5 YEARS ! Apparently in my condition that is not an option I have.

I'm scheduled for Surgery for this Wednesday August 7 for tens and tens of thousands of dollars in medical expertise and skill, and yet I do not have the money to pay for this.

For those who know me I am not someone who normally asks for help, but this sudden news has me devastated. I am humbled in having to ask for your generosity, that in some way you might be able to help me. I would be so thankful for any help you could provide. Whether it be money or hearts prayer or even passing this plea along to others, I would be deeply grateful.

My friends I love you all so very much and will look forward to seeing you after I recover and when we reopen in December.
