Hi, I'm Alex. I'm a fan a big fan of the greatest fighting game ever, Marvel vs Capcom 2.
One problem with the game is that in verse mode there is no rematch function. So it can take between 30 seconds and a minute before the next match can start if everything goes right. Fairly regularly people will pick the wrong character or assist, or forget to button switch. This means the game would need to be reset which leads to more delays. Also since it takes a while to pick a stage, 3 characters, and 3 assists. It is common for people to get distracted waiting for the other person, which leads to more delays.
By some estimates, in a simple "First to 5" there might be as much as 10 minutes lost to character selection, loading screens or related issues. That's 10 minutes more Marvel we could be enjoying!
OK... SO WHAT IS THIS GOFUNDME?
This is a Mod Bounty. This is a fundraiser to encourage modders to build a Rematch function into MVC2. They build it, they get paid, and we get to use it. Everybody wins.
MOD REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be for the US Dreamcast version of Marvel vs Capcom 2
- Must work on the physical console (we can test it for you if you don't have one!)
- Must be compatible with current game mods
- Must support the "switch glitch" effect
[Switch Glitch: Using A1/A2 during loading tunnel changes team order and makes held attack buttons come out on 1st frame.]
- Must require consent from both players
- Must have some sort of display for the users to let players know what to do (menu, on-screen text, graphic, etc.)
- Must count wins properly
- Must be easily distributable (eg: 1ST_READ.BIN edit)
- Must not adversely affect the game performance or other game functions
- Testing of the mod will be performed before the bounty is paid
- Ideally would not be the same stage if "random" stage was selected (open to discussion)
- At a minimum, the proposed mod when activated should select the same characters, assists, and colors for both players. Getting back into the match as fast as possible is the ultimate goal. Bypassing transitions, screens, or animations would be preferred but is not required.
F.A.Q.
Q: What if they don't make the mod? Are you just going to keep our money forever?
A: No! We'll have a deadline of 12/31/2023. If the mod is not created or is not in active development by then, all donations (less GFM fees) will be returned. No money will be taken out until the mod is completed and able to be distributed.
Q: What if multiple people contribute to the mod?
A: They will get paid based on the percentage of work they performed. (50/50, 67/33, etc.) This will try to be agreed upon by the modding group. If the group cannot come to a consensus, I will make the final decision on the percentages.
Q: Don't you make mods? Are you just trying to get paid?
A: No! I'm bush-league, this is beyond my abilities. If I do contribute any work that gets used in the mod, I will forgo any payout and donate my portion to the others. I am putting up $100 of my own money.
Q: How will the modder(s) get paid?
A: Gofundme uses bank transfers to send money, if the modders want to provide bank info to get paid directly from GFM they can do that. But most likely the money will be transferred to me, and I will send them money via some other method (Paypal, Venmo, paper check, etc.)
Q: Who are you?
A: I've been a part of the mvc2 community for over 20 years. I've gone to many tournaments as far back as 2001 [B5], participated in many money matches, and I'm fairly well known. I would like to think that even the people who don't like me would say I am an honorable dude.
