10 Mile Run in Belize for Marvin's Leukaemia Medication

Hi, my name is Robin.

I am setting myself the challenge of a 10 mile sponsored run from Eden Farm, San Antonio up to the Pine Ridge and back. The aim to raise enough to pay Marvin's medical expenses for one year. The last time I ran that far was 25 years ago aged 43 in a cooler climate so this will be a serious challenge!

Marvin is our wonderful farm manager at Eden Farm.

He is one of those people that gives more than he takes in life. Not only is he a great farm manager but he dedicates much of his spare time to the community leading Youth groups, church groups and the school parents' association to name but a few! Marvin is always there to help others. But now its time for us to help him.

Earlier this year he was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia (CML). There are no Haematologists in Belize and no help available so he went to Honduras (his birth country) to seek treatment.

CML can be treated with good outcomes with Imatinib. However it costs 240 USD (£192) per month for 45 pills he needs.

Furthermore he needs a PCR blood test every 3 months to monitor the level of leukaemic cells. The blood test has to be done in Honduras costing 500 USD (£400).

In addition a monthly full blood count test taken locally for 30 USD (£24)

So over 1 year he needs

Imatinib pills 2880 USD (£2304)

PCR Blood tests 2000 USD (£1600)

Blood count tests 360 USD (£288)

Total 5240 USD (£4192)

Raising the funds for his treatment so far has put he and his family under immense strain so I would like to try and raise at least 1 years worth of treatment.

UPDATE as at December 5th.. Thanks to everyones generosity I have nearly reached my target so I am raising it to 18 months of treatment.
