My daughter, Danielle Whaley, is in the hospital because she was robbed at gunpoint and then shot in the back. She is paralyzed from the chest down. The robber stole her money from her purse. Afterward he told her to drive away and then he shot through the rear car window. The bullet shattered the window, pierced the driver's seat and lodged into her spinal cord where the bullet remains today. She’s been in the hospital for over one month. Her faith is strong and she believes the Lord will use her life story to help others.
Danielle recently started her business, Yummy Delights Kitchen. She is known as Chef Yummy. She utilized her gift to feed the homeless as well as others. Life has obviously changed for her. As her mother, I’m doing all that I can to assist her. I’m helping to support her daughter while working in St. Louis and managing Danielle’s care in Atlanta. Some of this can be done by a family member; however, her father and his wife who live in Atlanta have declined to help her. As you can imagine this is a challenging journey for all of us. We are standing on God’s Word and the prayers of so many who are interceding on our behalf. We trust this will be a powerful testimony of the Lord’s faithfulness and one day Danielle will be able to serve the community again.
Danielle has applied for Medicaid. Until it is approved, she cannot go forward to a physical therapy facility. After physical therapy, Danielle will need total care. In other words, someone to help her with her basic needs including food prep, bathing, and getting dressed. As a result she will need around the clock nursing care. Nursing care will cost $12,000 or more per month in addition to her other monthly expenses like rent, utilities and food will cost $2000 or more per month. Currently, these expenses will be covered by me until her disability and Medicaid assistance are approved. This process could take 9 months to one year. This total expense is far beyond my means.
