Mary Hendrickson's MDS Benefit
As many of you know Mary fought a battle with Sarcoma in 2018. Recently Mary learned that she has MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) which is a bone marrow illness that can be caused by chemotherapy exposure from her Sarcoma. Because of this, she will need a Bone Marrow Transplant.
Mary will be starting inpatient stay at the hospital on April 15th. She will start with a week-long round of intense chemotherapy to prepare her body for her transplant, which is on April 21st. Her bother, Mike, is a perfect match and is her donor. She is very grateful that he is able to save her life. After the transplant, she will be in the hospital for an additional three weeks. Unfortunately, with COVID-19, she will not be able to have any visitors for her extensive hospital stay. After those three weeks, she will return home, under careful care and watch. She will continue to go to the hospital for possible transfusions and fluids twice a week for approximately 60 days after her return home. This will all be a huge change for Mary, her family, and her friends that she is very close with.
We all know that Mary is a fighter and she is going to tackle her next obstacle, but along with that comes some other stressors besides her health. The Bone Marrow Transplant means that she will have to be off of work for an extensive amount of time--at the least, 6 months and possibly up to a year, while still having to pay her bills. We want to do something for her so she feels a little more at ease when it comes to her finances.
Thank you for your consideration, and if you are able to donate, we thank you SO much! Mary is very grateful for all of the love and support that she has received! If you have any questions, please contact her daughter, Amanda.
