Mary Margaret (Koselke) Anderson

Mary passed away 2 September 2022. Everyone knew my mom, Mary, as the quiet, sweet lady who sews better than anyone. She struggled with kidney failure for many years. On 11 March 2022, she was hospitalized as kidney failure created other issues. On 23 March 2022, she had three strokes while at dialysis for her kidney treatment. She was right-side paralyzed after the strokes. After an attempt at a nursing home, rehab and multiple hospital stays, she requested to stay at her own home, but she started declining quickly. Hospice took over so that she could spend her final days there. For five months, I have fought with every insurance, government office, Medicare, SC Medicaid and more. The only way she could stay in her home was for a personal caretaker to stay with her and assist her daily. This has all been paid out of pocket. A funeral is not being planned. She requested to be cremated. The kids and I will take her remains back to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she grew up and loved more than anywhere. My grandparents are buried there also. We're starting this fund to help offset the cost of the care over the last 5+ months and assist with the future plan to celebrate her life in the place she loved the most. She didn't want us to be sad; she wants us to celebrate her freedom from the pain she's been suffering for years. We have appreciated all the messages, calls, cards and love I have been able to share with her. I'll keep everyone updated. Most importantly, thank you for your love and support through this.
