Mary Meacham Medical Travel for Surgery

Mary Meacham is a Eagle River community member that has been involved in numerous activities through the years.

She suffers from a benign brain tumor that is controlled through the spinal fluid. 3 years ago doctors at The Cleveland Clinic inserted a ventricular peritoneal shunt in her brain to control the spinal fluid pressure. She was diagnosed with a pseudotumor cerebri tumor 24 years ago, that effects the amount of spinal fluid around the brain. Currently her shunt is 100% blocked and she needs to travel back to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for another surgery to replace this shunt. She has been undergoing testing here in Alaska and has been struggling for a few months with her own health.

Mary has been an integral part of Eagle River with giving back to her community. She headed the fundraising efforts for the Meadow Creek fire tenants, has been in charge of Trick or Treat in the heat, has been a chair person for the Thanksgiving and Christmas community dinners for 6 years. She also volunteers for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots, helped with the Tree of Giving and the Easter Egg hunts sponsored by locals clubs.

Please consider helping cover the costs of her travel back to Cleveland that is out of pocket expenses. Her insurance covers the cost of the surgery but not the incidentals for lodging/ rental car / and the cost for a companion to travel with her for the surgery. Her goal is to get back to living a normal life.

All funds that are raised will go directly to Mary and her family.
