Mary Yocum’s Memorial: an Adaptive Home Project

Loved ones in heaven greeted Mary Yocum on the morning of June 30, 2021.

Mary loved being outdoors. One of her favorite things was hanging out and relaxing on the deck with family and friends.

Family was always important to Mary. Whether it was her siblings, daughters, her many nieces and nephews, or grandchildren, Mary made sure everyone was cared for. She particularly liked spending time with grandson Zachary on any deck or patio. She and Zachary could not enjoy the deck at his home because the old sliding glass doors are too narrow for Zachary’s wheelchair.

We would like to replace Zachary's narrow sliding glass doors with French doors, update the deck with a safety rail, and add a ramp. Zachary could then access the deck and enjoy the outdoors. This upgrade would also function as a second exit to the house in the event of an emergency.
