Mary’s cycling N.C. fundraiser: Harbor House

On October 3rd, I will embark on a 460-mile bike ride from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina to Topsail, on the Outer Banks. While logging many arduous miles during my training, I had many hours to sing, pray and contemplate just how fortunate I am to be able to embark on this adventure. Unfortunately, there are many whose arduous tasks are finding work to provide food and shelter for their families, keep them safe from drugs and gang violence, provide a safe place for their children to do their homework, and receive a healthy meal after school. Harbor House is just that sanctuary.
Over the years, the Gabrielson family has provided donations for Harbor House Food Drives and Christmas store shopping events. I have taught CPR classes and several years ago refinished and painted the floor of their new teen room. In addition, my son, Evan, completed his Eagle Scout project by building a table and bookcase for the teen room. Evan has also thoroughly enjoyed tutoring several students from Harbor House during their after-school program.
