Hello, everyone; thank you for stopping by to read this story. Meet MP, or Mashed Potato.
I found MP at a shelter, where when I first got to meet him in the playroom, he cuddled in my arms and then proceeded to scratch my nose, causing me to bleed. His feisty spirit matches his love to play and cuddle. I adopted MP the same day I met him, twenty minutes before the shelter closed. I couldn't bring him home until four days later, but I was so thankful and scared to have a cat for the first time. He was around 13 weeks old, and now he is 20 weeks! I am so blessed to have him in my life.
The worst scare I've ever had in my life was when he stopped eating food. He wasn't finishing his meals, and I knew something was wrong after he hadn't eaten even half of his dinner. He was lethargic and drooling. I rushed him to the vet the following morning and waited the entire day, corresponding with the vet technicians and doctor on his possible diagnosis. It felt terrible how I juggled between thinking about how I would afford this on my student grader salary that only allowed me to work six hours a week and the meager savings I had saved up for MP as a full-time student. The animal hospital did not offer a payment plan, and I had to use my credit card to afford the exams, check-ups, and a variety of medications I needed to feed MP for his mouth and stomach ulcers. Although the cause was unclear, the biggest belief is that he licked or ate something acidic. I remember cleaning the entire house after hearing that. I felt so powerless to help MP and did my best to find anything that could explain his symptoms.
His vet bill came out to $795.47, but despite the financial turmoil that I am in (and the desperation I hope to express while writing this), I am so thankful MP is better. After five days of medication, MP has lost all his symptoms except for his drooling, which has decreased significantly. I called the vet today and got permission to continue providing nausea medication for his drooling to see if that will help him out (as today was meant to be his last day on it).
I write this letter to anyone who stops by to help out MP or read about our story. Thank you for your time, and thank you for any assistance or kind thoughts you send our way.
Warmly,
Sam
P.S.: After seeing MP lethargic and without energy or strength, seeing him rest so peacefully fills me with gratitude and joy.
