PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT FOR ALBERTA
Donation protected
With the race to contain and limit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is an urgent call to all industries and individuals across Alberta to collect funds to purchase Personal Protective Equipment, including N95 and surgical masks, gloves, gowns, face shields, and disinfectants. This equipment is essential to protect frontline workers including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, other hospital staff, and other essential community workers. This need is particularly pressing when it comes to protection of our vulnerable populations, including seniors, the homeless and other marginalized populations, and the frontline workers who care for them.
Frontline healthcare workers are already reporting PPE shortages elsewhere (https://www.macleans.ca/news/the-race-to-get-personal-protective-equipment-to-health-care-workers/), and current trends are strongly indicating that Alberta, and the rest of Canada, is on track to experience a completely overwhelmed medical system. PPE is a proven and effective way to protect against the transmission of COVID-19 and, without it, our frontline healthcare workers will become infected and unable to save lives. We are expecting our frontline healthcare workers to go to battle for us and we need to protect them - to help them to continue to support all of us - as PPE demand increases rapidly on a global scale amid a stifled supply chain.
The Helping Alberta initiative began in response to these concerns about PPE shortages. To prevent these shortages, we have identified opportunities to purchase additional PPE but we can only do it with your help.
Monetary donations both large and small matter. Even the purchase of one single mask can help stop the spread of COVID-19 and save a life.
Through your support, together, we can help protect our Alberta healthcare workers and community.
