Masks for Doctors: COVID19 Fund for PPE
Donation protected
Hospitals around the country are running out of critical protective gear needed to handle the rapidly increasing cases of COVID-19. You can help them get the PPE they need to safely treat patients and not become infected themselves with a quick donation of anything you can afford.
We’ve got direct access to a supply of tight-fitting respirator masks, coveralls, and full-face shields ready to be delivered directly to hospitals in need. Our initial goal is to help medical professionals in and around the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Washington D.C. areas get the PPE they so desperately need, but with your help we can spread this initiative to hospitals around the USA.
100% of the donations will go straight to making sure hospitals are supplied with medical masks, coveralls, and full-face shields. Your donations cover the cost of the supplies themselves and direct shipping to hospitals in the areas most in need. As our funding grows, we hope to reach other high-risk areas as well. We will provide updates about every shipment so you can see first hand what working together can achieve.
Health care workers are our family, friends, co-workers, lovers, and spouses – and they’re on the front lines of caring for everyone who contracts this disease. Without proper protective gear, they risk unnecessary exposure, getting sick themselves, and spreading COVID-19 even further.
At the time of posting this drive, April 1, 2020 there were a reported 189,531 confirmed cases in the US and more than 4,000 deaths, with experts admitting that number is low because of lack of testing, and that it is certain to rise.
Those numbers keep growing and you can find them updated constantly here at the NY Times Coronavirus Tracker .
Help Us Help Hospitals: We can ONLY do this together.
Our Goal
We hope to deliver 100,000 masks, 10,000 protective gowns, and 5,000 full face shields and deliver them to hospitals in New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire as soon as possible.
We are confident you will help us CRUSH this goal so we can order even more supplies and expand our reach to even more hospitals.
Our Promise
We will provide as many doctors and nurses as possible with PPE directly. The more donations you send, the more pieces of gear we’ll be able to order, and the lower the prices to purchase will be. We promise to use these funds to find the lowest-priced, most effective gear possible.
We’re fighting with you: We are donating our own money and time to make sure that your dollar does the most good. We’ve already sourced the lowest costs in effective masks, PPE, and other safety wear and will continue to do so as demand and prices skyrocket everywhere. We are reaching out to hospitals and senior care facilities to find who needs donations most and how to get these items there safely.
We’ll also update our Facebook and Instagram with images of delivery, updated items, and information about what is being done with your donations.
Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It
First: Flatten the curve. Stay home as much as possible. If you must go out, make sure to use social distancing, wash your hands, and disinfect shared surfaces often. The first line of defense is to make sure you don’t get COVID-19 or spread it to others.
Next: Donate! Help us help doctors, nurses, and medical staff get armed with the supplies they need to fight against COVID-19 by making a donation today. We urge anyone who can to send $21 USD, but ANY dollar amount will help. $3 USD covers the cost of either a tight-fitting mask or full-face shield, $15 covers the cost of a full-body coverall, and for around $21 dollars, you’ll help cover an entire protective suit for a doctor or nurse.
Share this fundraiser on Facebook and Instagram. Spreading the word and using #MasksForDoctors will go a long way toward getting the word out and giving us momentum to do more.
Band together, and with enough of us we can ensure that hospitals can operate safely.
How did this begin?
Our team members have been keeping track of the pandemic’s progress since it started disrupting supply lines from China. As colleagues overseas learned more about surviving COVID-19, they also alerted us to the need for protective gear both in hospitals and for the general public, and offered to help us connect to large supplies of them.
When our team members discovered that we had a direct line to this critical equipment, our next question was: How can we best use this resource to do the most good? A few intense meetings and emails later, MasksForDoctors.org was born out of our personal obligation to do whatever is necessary to help the people risking the most during this pandemic.
We’re starting in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York area because those are the areas closest to our US headquarters. And where, if necessary, team members can personally receive and distribute masks (while taking necessary safety precautions). But as we get more funds to pay for more masks and shipping elsewhere, we hope to spread out.
If you are a doctor, nurse, or hospital supply organizer in the US and can work with us to receive and distribute these items please reach out to: [email redacted]
What does all of this boil down to?
Doctors and nurses need more gear to safely treat patients with COVID-19 without catching it themselves or spreading it to other patients. Right now, it’s hard to estimate how much is needed, and we are not even sure how long the pandemic will last. That said, we hope for the best and prepare for the worst. This fundraiser will go on as long as PPE is in demand.
What will you do if you raise more funds than are needed to supply PPE in the US?
Great question, the answer is: Whatever is needed. If we are lucky enough to get more funds than we ask for, we will simply increase our orders for PPE until every dollar is spent on equipment for hospitals.
How will you use the money?
Seriously, all of the money is going toward the purchase and shipment of masks and PPE to cut out as many middlemen as possible and ensure they get to where they need to go. Everyone working on this project is a volunteer, there is no payroll. We are not storing the masks so there is no warehouse overhead. 100% of the money collected here goes straight delivering PPE where it is needed most.
Why New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Washington D.C. first?
There are a couple of reasons. First, that’s simply where it has been easiest to begin our hospital network since some of our colleagues live and work in that region. Second, it’s currently the nation’s hardest-hit area, making it the region that needs the most help right now. We’ll branch out if we are able to, but we want to meet our initial goals first.
Are you really ready to roll?
We sure are! We have figured out where to source quality masks and PPE at the lowest price, and how to ship it directly to hospitals in need. The only things we need now are money and exposure.
We are already speaking with doctors, local hospitals, and other organizations to coordinate our efforts and ensure these items go where they are most needed.
We’ve actually already started giving out masks. We wanted to know if it was possible, and how long the process would take, so we went ahead and ordered a small batch of masks to distribute. All in all, it took about a week from start to finish. We hope with steady donations that we’ll be able to place regular orders and have something to give out to hospitals nearly daily.
Why isn’t the government doing this?
We can’t speak for them, and we won’t pretend to. We aren’t focusing on where others are falling short, we’re focusing on how we can help. If everyone was simply saying “someone else should do it” nothing would get done.
There are tons of charities for COVID-19, how do I know this one is legit?
Well we aren’t saying those charities aren’t legit. If you see another charity that is more relevant to you, or feels better for you please please please donate there. The goal is to help, it’s not to compete. But we promise that if you help us all of your money will go supplying healthcare professionals with the gear they need most. We’re legit, but so are so many others. Donate where your heart leads you.
That said, you’ll be able to contact us and deal with real people who are passionate about this endeavor. You’ll be able to see our pictures and updates when we have them and keep up with how your donations are being spent. We’ll be keeping you in the loop about our deliveries as often as possible.
How do you pick where the masks go?
Our team of distributors and doctors vet vendors and their products as thoroughly as possible. If you have a better idea, we’d love to hear it. Email us at [email redacted]
But for now, we’re working with recommendations given to us straight from the doctors and nurses in the field.
Are you a nonprofit?
We are partnering with COJECO.org, which is officially a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Now, because of this partnership, donations over $200 can be made tax-deductible. Send tax deductible donations by PayPal to: [email redacted]. You will receive a receipt and necessary paperwork to claim your donation.
How can we make a request for masks?
Go ahead and fill out this form: https://www.masksfordoctors.org/request.html
I don’t have money to donate, but I still want to help.
Thank you, really. We know that the most valuable thing that anyone has right now is time. For you to want to donate it is HUGE. Here are the steps we’d recommend.
1) Share this fundraiser on your social media. Helping spread the word makes this even more possible.
2) If you work in the medical field and can help accept masks send us an email at [email redacted] to let us know how we can help you, or what products you’re currently asking for. We’ll work on listing state by state requests in an update below so that people can see what is needed in their area.
3) If you are willing and able to drive supplies to hospitals in the New England area, please reach out to us at [email redacted]
4) Reach out to your local area nursing homes and healthcare facilities. A lot of them are understaffed with medical professionals, and could use people to do other things like run for supplies, or take care of their outside grounds.
