Mason MacDonald Mental Health Support Fund
Don protégé
Hello,
This Go fund me is in honor of Mason Lee Macdonald. I am Alex Trottier, and for those who don't know me, Mason is my brother. Mason was one of the closest people I had. He touched so many lives and was dearly loved by so many. My family and I recently lost Mason, his battle with mental health ended in a tragic outcome. Even with unconditional love and support, an individual going through a mental health episode may need more support. Although Mason is no longer with us, his passion for helping people has inspired us to rally together and try to make something positive out of this heartbreaking loss. This is where the fund comes in.
With the help of local mental health professionals, the fund will be used to help those who need additional mental health support services but are no longer covered under OHIP or their private insurance. The financial pressure coupled with the strain of a mental health episode can cause an individual and their family additional stress and turmoil. The fund will be used at the discretion of local mental health professionals to help those in Sudbury that are in need of financial support to ensure they get the help they need. It was important for us to ensure all the money that is raised is spent on helping people in need, not burned up in administrative costs. This is why we reached out to Dr. Kumar as he sees the people in need of support on a daily basis, and can affect change on an individual level.
About My Brother:
Mason was without a doubt one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever hope to meet. He was a charismatic man who truly listened to people. He always tried to help wherever he could, whether that meant an open ear or some thoughtful words to help ease the anxiety and pain someone was going through. He graduated from Carlton University with a degree in Neuroscience, and during his studies volunteered at a crisis hotline. His passion for helping people came into full swing when he took a position at March of Dimes Canada as an earning capacity assessor. This allowed him to work with Canadian Veterans and help them reintegrate into a society that is forever indebted to them for their service. My brother was deeply passionate about his work and took great pride in assisting those who needed a helping hand.
Mason's struggles with his own demons may have ended in tragedy, but with your help, we can save others from following the same path. His life's goal was to help those in need, a truly selfless man with such a capacity for compassion and empathy. We hope we can do right by him, honor the man he was and help those in need.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read his story.
-Alex
