Display case- my senior project
Donation protected
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Mason Littlefield. I am a senior at the Block Island School. For my senior project, I wanted to go above and beyond an ordinary project. Of course, it’s always good to challenge myself, but I also wanted to improve the school and help tie the school together with the community. So I came up with the idea of a display case to be placed in the front vestibule of the school. Building and designing this will meet my objectives of challenging myself and, of course, will be a school improvement initiative. The display case will feature oak, rich mahogany, fine brass hardware, and safety glass. In addition to these pricey materials, we also must get building permits. We must pay for the cutting of the safety glass; the company will donate the installation of the glass. Materials and cutting cause the cost of the display case to be so high, and above the range of what a typical fundraiser would bring in. In order to complete this special project, I will need to raise funds for the materials and glass cutting. I am hoping that you will help.
I am also a member of a family that has been on Block Island since the first settlement of the small community, so it is very important to me to tie the history of the island and my family to the display case. There will be a section of the display case for alumni pictures from decades in the past, tying the history of Block Island School to the present.
The display case will also provide an opportunity for recent and present students to display their accomplishments in fine arts, music, academics and athletics for teams and individuals. This would display the diversity of our students’ talents and hard work.
It is my goal to make the display case a state of the art, quality, and aesthetically-pleasing project that catches the eye of everyone who walks into our school.
The display case also needs to meet building and fire code regulations, which will increase the price. That is why I have taken the time to write letters and respectfully ask for donations to reach the cost of the display case, which will be roughly $17,000.
If you are willing to donate, I would be most grateful. We will have a plaque listing everyone who has donated to our cause. If not, thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
Sincerely,
Mason Littlefield
P.S. Please make all checks payable to the Block Island School Friends, P.O. Box 1890, Block Island, RI 02807. Any extra money will stay in the Friends’ account and be used for school improvements or student activities.
