Mason’s diagnosis and road to recovery
Donation protected
Hey friends, my name is Krystle and I’ve started a Gofund Me for my good friend Lyndsie who recently found out her 16 year old son Mason was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic.
From the moment her and her two boys came into my life it was an instant connection. Her children very well behaved and respectful and her a hard working single mom who does everything in her power to put her boys needs first and give them a good life.
in the years I’ve known Mason he’s accomplished some pretty cool things! He’s a great football player, he’s done the police academy and received an award and then decided to spend his summer as a camp counsellor and venture on to his own adventure for 6 weeks being a good role model for others.
While there this past weekend….
He starting throwing up after supper on Saturday. He had stomach pain and chest pain and couldn’t keep anything down. They took him to swift current hospital on Sunday. The doctor gave him a syringe to drink gaterade from and told him to drink every 10 min and that he had heat stroke and sent him back to camp. No blood work was done.
On Monday afternoon at 3 pm his fellow councillors at camp Elim called 811 then an ambulance. Mason was starting to slurr his words and was becoming delirious. He hadn’t been able to hold even water down since Saturday supper time.
That’s when they called me (mom) and told me he likely had heat stroke. I was called shortly after by the hospital and asked if anyone had diabetes in our family and that his sugars were high. I had to divert the call to my mom because I was driving my work truck:(
Grandma and Grandpa rushed to swift current and stayed with him as I had to finish my work day.
Masons blood sugar was at 55 which I didn’t know till much later. As normal is between 5-10. He could have died.
We are so thankful the camp called an ambulance. He’ll be ok and get back to his “new normal” We are all learning insulin injections and nutrition and now having to navigate a whole new way of living. He looks like he just came back from A game of Survivor with how much weight he has lost in three weeks.
I’m asking for your help as Lyndsie (mom) will be taking time away from work which is currently what pays the bills, to help herself and her son learn a whole new routine and way of living, as well as two ambulance bills which are not fully covered by insurance.
Any help and thoughtful prayers or good vibes are appreciated.
Thank you
