Mason Sanders' Long Road to Recovery

Our Grandson, Ashley & Brandon's son Mason was born in January 2010, 4 months premature, weighing in at 1 lb 12 oz; at his lowest weight, he was 1 lb 2 oz. He was called the miracle boy and has lived up to that name. He was so premature that his eyes were still fused shut and he fit in the palm of your hand. He survived a heart valve surgery, a tracheostomy which he had until he was three years old and could breathe independently, but left him with chronic lung disease. He survived brain bleeds, which are common in premies but left him with Cerebral Palsy.

After 8 more surgeries and years of financial struggles, we fast forward to 2022, and he just finished surgery #11. If all goes well, this surgery will fix his legs, which are turned inward, from the cerebral palsy and hopefully allow Mason to walk correctly for the first time in his life, the surgeons believe the surgery will be a success. However, it will be a very long and expensive road for his recovery, with more than 6 weeks at home, and then he will be admitted to an inpatient physical therapy facility for, hopefully, no longer than 10 weeks with up to a year or more for a full recovery on his legs. Mason will always have medical issues and we hope to be able to lighten the family's financial burdens.

With the family's insurance not covering all of the medical bills the rest is up to Ashley & Brandon to try to pay what they can.

Mason is an honor roll student, loves historical facts and music mostly the old time rock and roll. He is loving, honest and will bluntly tell you how it really is.
