Master Sergeant Darrell Smith Memorial Foundation

This fund represents a group of nameless Special Operations members, Veterans, and the bereaved family of MSG Darrell T. Smith. On May 9th, 2023, our community and families were devastated by the news of MSG Smith’s passing. We immediately did everything we could, with the support of the “Sua Sponte Foundation” to attend the funeral and support his family. On our return flight home from his funeral, our four-man group made a pact to ensure the well-being of Darrell’s sons Jack and Ryan. Among our plans for involving them in our community, is to set up a financial investment strategy to ensure their security.

Master Sergeant Smith was a warrior in the purest definition, a proud member of the 75th Ranger Regiment, and the epitome of an Infantryman. This which was apparent to anyone lucky enough to have known or served alongside him. He deployed to combat multiple times in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all over the world. Darrell sustained multiple combat related injuries during his deployments and was re-assigned to the Soldier Recovery Unit at Fort Sam Houston to help him recuperate before transitioning out of the Army.

Despite his illustrious career, the thing Darrell was most proud of, was being a Father. Every conversation I ever had with Darrell would usually end up with him telling a story about Jack or Ryan. Darrell had two sets of kids, the two he was a Father to, and the Rangers under his command. His dedication and commitment to both inspired this go fund me.

In the Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment, we live every day by the Ranger Creed. This Creed lays out the moral and personal accountability every ranger vows to uphold daily. It speaks of never failing our comrades, energetically meeting our enemies, and completing any mission (even if you are the sole survivor). This Creed is not just words to us, it is a promise. It is a promise that we are not going to forget. Which is why we need your help, to ensure our Ranger buddies sons, can go on to live in memory of their father and leave a legacy he would have been proud of.

This is what we will use the funds from this foundation for.

• The Funds from this go fund me will be solely and directly placed into an Indexed Life Insurance Policy. Every single one of the fund’s movements, receipts, and transfers will be published to this go fund me page, with complete transparency.

• This policy will contain riders and conditions to; ensure boys remain the sole beneficiaries, to ensure the policy is in place long enough to reach its highest maturation, and instill that the boys earn the money (explained below)

*a small portion of the funds will be given to the boys regardless, to ensure they enter adulthood with 0 issues. but to access the full account, Jack and Ryan will sit down with the policy holders and discuss a plan for the money. Whether that is further education, investing in a property, or another investment. The goal of this fund isn’t to pay for the wish list of 18-year-old males, but to challenge them to grow into educated and well-informed men, able to make a large financial decision on their own. These are men that Darrell would have been proud of, and I believe this course is one he would have wanted.

Pending on the success of this foundation, we plan on replicating this fund for dozens of other family members of deceased Veterans. Darrell’s dedication to his family and kids was the model a lot of us would want to use in our own families. This makes him the perfect namesake, to carry on this prospect. As for now, we will continue to support and watch over Jack and Ryan as if they were our own (because they are now), though we be the lone survivors
