Master Steve Sosa's Support/Healing Fund

Another update: Mr. Sosa is staying the hospital overnight. While he's there, he's becoming familiar with his new medical team (since he moved out of Dallas County and in with his daughter Shaed, he must have new doctors) and getting a few tests done.
In the meantime, he has started ozone therapy several times a day, and he says that has really improved his health and strength. He is only borrowing this machine, but really needs to purchase his own, which costs anywhere from $1500-2000. Because of your generosity, he's hoping to do this soon. But that also uses up about 1/2 of what he's been given so far through Gofundme. Please share this campaign, if you can, so we can reach the maximum amount of people to help Mr. Sosa support himself during his healing. And, again, we are so grateful for every dollar, prayer, healing thought, and share.
Thank you!
Hey Guys--
The benefit was a great success! I've posted the group picture with all who came out. Everyone learned so much from the Texas Karate Legends Mr. Kirby and Mr. McCallum--definitely sparring strategies that will help with future tournaments. And all who came gave generously, but we are still so far from our goal. If you could please share, we would be most grateful.
A message from Shaed, Master Steve's daughter:
Thank you for an support you can assist my father in his battle with Colorectal Cancer. He is a generous man who has spent his life giving back to the community through Martial Arts!! He was also recently promoted to 9th degree as well and is considered a "Grand Master" any support you can offer my father in this time would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to get his health back on track so he can continue to fight back against the Cancer & once again pass on the incredible teachings of martial arts.
Thank you for all your support to my family!!
In all the places you go; in all the things you do....go with love✌
Dear Texas Karate Family,
Like many of you, I’ve been blessed to grow up as a member of our unique and diverse community. Our foundation is our passion and standard of excellence that defines Texas martial arts. I am writing today on behalf of Steve Sosa. Steve exemplifies what a Texas black belt should be in every sense. I have watched him grow into an honorable and hard-working man. Steve is a single-parent and with both his parents passing away far too early he is the patriarch of the Sosa family.
He is a full-time instructor who truly puts family and students first. Steve earned his black belt from Allen Steen at only age 10 making him to date the youngest black belt Mr. Steen has ever promoted.
Mr. Sosa has enjoyed a Hall of Fame career, winning most every major championship in the southwest as a junior competitor and as an adult. Watching Steve fight was always exciting – a remarkable technician with incredible speed and devastating power. When I begin teaching Mr. Sosa at age 7 I never imagined he would become my closest and dearest friend. He is without question the best student I have ever had the pleasure to teach and there is no one I respect more.
Mr. Sosa is now fighting the fight of his life with a deadly and unforgiving opponent—cancer. Please join us in his corner!
What’s really needed now is
your financial help along with your prayers in helping him win this fight. Not only will you be contributing to a great cause, you’ll also receive a few benefits for yourself.
On Saturday, October 5, we will be hosting a fundraiser at Vision Martial Arts in Plano, with well-known champions Raymond McCallum, David Mason and myself—three of the best and most recognized fighters and coaches in Texas karate history.
Here’s the lineup for the seminar:
1-2:30 Sparring Strategies and Techniques
2:30-3:30 Lunch (on your own) and Fellowship
3:30-5:00 All Star Sparring –
bring your gear and you’ll get to put these tips into action with some of Texas finest fighters.
All proceeds go to the Steve Sosa Fight Fund, which will help him with living and medical expenses. Admission is $15 but additional donations are greatly appreciated. We will have DVDs of the entire event, including sparring matches, for a $30 donation. Go all in with a private lesson from Mr.Kirby for only $200. If you’re unable to attend please generously give to Steve’s GO FUND ME account.
Please join us in being a blessing to Steve, one of Texas‘s finest martial artists. We appreciate your support!
Godspeed,
Tim Kirby
Over 16 months ago (June 2018), Master Steve Sosa was diagnosed with Grade IV Colon Cancer and was given 6-8 months to live by his doctors, EVEN WITH CHEMO TREATMENTS. He underwent surgery to remove as many of the tumors as they could, and was released from the hospital to begin chemo and to come to terms with not being here much longer. With nothing to lose, Mr. Sosa did extensive research and has since embraced a whole-body nutrition program and lifestyle plan which-not only has kept him alive and feeling better-but has allowed him to live well beyond his projected life expectancy and even thrive. With this protocol and his hard work, it didn’t even take him long to heal enough to get back to teaching his martial arts classes.
However, this is a rigorous schedule of fresh juices, smoothies, powders, and pills that he has to prepare and take everyday. And it is almost a full-time job in itself. As we all know, healthy food/produce, supplements and his various supplemental treatments designed to support his immune system, aren’t covered by insurance and are very expensive. For the last 16 months, he’s been working two jobs, in order to support this lifestyle. But recently, he had car trouble, which made it impossible for him to work this last month, which meant he couldn’t afford his protocols, and now his health has dramatically suffered.
We are hoping the martial arts community, as well as the surrounding community, can find it in their hearts to help get Mr. Sosa back on track. We would like to give him at least 6 months of financial support, so his treatments aren’t interrupted again, he can regain his health, and finally get back to his students for good--something he wants most in the world.
Master Sosa has spent the majority of his life (almost 40 years since earning his black belt at age 10), mentoring and inspiring kids and adults to be their best selves, using TaeKwonDo and other martial arts styles. He accomplished this through his opening his own martial arts school and partnering with fellow black belts, friends, and colleagues. Right before his diagnosis, he left his own business to join the Texas Karate Institute, in order to assist their community outreach by enabling them to expand their youth and adult programs. He is a gifted teacher, witnessed by so many of us who have known him for so long. Giving him the opportunity to take away some of the financial burden and stress, so that he can focus on healing, would be the best gift of all.
Please consider giving any amount that you can, so that Master Sosa can continue to be an inspiration, and make a difference in the lives of my 3 children, as well as the many other children and adult students at TKI. We don’t know what we’d do without him. And, please pray or send any positive, healing thoughts his way--ANYTHING is appreciated at this time.
