Mateo doesn't give up his hope

Hello there,

I'm Petra, and I'd like to introduce you to the heart and soul of this campaign - my son, Mateo, a vibrant 7-year-old with dreams as big as the sky. Our lives took an unexpected turn a year ago when Mateo was struck by an autoimmune reaction that intertwined with other viruses. The outcome was a rare diagnosis: NMOSD (Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disease).

NMOSD brought with it acute myelitis, a severe spinal cord injury, acute trunk syndrome, and a crushing quadriparesis, leaving Mateo with weakened muscles in all four limbs. It's a condition that only affects 3 in a million children annually, making it as rare as it is challenging.

As parents, we've poured our hearts and resources into Mateo's recovery. We've explored every avenue - physiotherapy, rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, hippotherapy, and biochemical treatments. Progress has been made, but some muscles continue to resist.

Our dedicated medical team has presented us with two promising options. The first is a stay at a specialized spinal unit for young children abroad. The second combines robotic rehabilitation with traditional Chinese medicine. These facilities can be found in Austria, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, and others recommended by top doctors as Mateo's condition evolves.

This is where we humbly seek your support. Specialized care is a costly journey, but it offers the best chance for Mateo to do what he yearns for - to play with his friends, to live out his dreams, and to embrace his limitless potential. He's a young soul with an extraordinary future, but time is slipping through our fingers like grains of sand.
