Materials and Distribution of PPE for COVID-19
Donation protected
Help us protect our healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis!
Over the past month, we have seen the devastating effects of Coronavirus across the world. Our healthcare workers are putting their lives at risk every day by taking care of the infected, and their their demand for PPE (personal protective equipment) far exceeds the supply across the country. And it may only get worse as the weeks go on.
I'm Eric Gever, an aerospace engineer by day, and a 3D printer / laser cutter hobbyist and FIRST Robotics mentor by night. I love designing parts that solve problems, are useful, and can help people in their daily lives. The world is looking for creativity and solutions to very challenging problems with now with the COVID-19 outbreak, and I am inspired to help!
Over the past couple weeks, I have spent hundreds of dollars purchasing raw materials and tooling upgrades, and been working hard to collaborate with PPE distribution across the country. I started developing reusable face masks, and have recently moved on to mass production of face shields for distribution to hospitals in NYC and Los Angeles. I am actively communicating with local hospitals to determine their greatest needs, which change over time, and design/print as necessary parts that they request for donations.
In addition to using my own printers, I have organized groups of colleagues, robotics students, and local makers interested in making a difference and helping to produce these face shields. I have been directing a dozen printers and growing for this effort in order to increase the PPE production to the greatest extent possible.
Donations are 100% used in support of this effort. Funds donated to this cause are used to pay for raw materials that I can distribute to my network of makers/students for production, parts used to maintain those printers as they break down (as they are running 24/7), and the costs of sterilizing, packaging, and shipping the PPE to the hospital or health center in need. Your support is greatly appreciated for this effort!!
Photos will be continuously posted of our efforts here!
Note: if you are a health care worker in need of PPE donated to your facility, please contact me so I can get equipment distributed to you! Also, please provide ongoing guidance on different types of equipment your facility needs, as the conditions or supply changes so that we can best serve your needs!
