In Loving Memory of Theodora Anavhe Adamu:Revolutionizing Maternal Healthcare in Nigeria

In 2012, my sister Theodora's life was tragically cut short due to avoidable pregnancy complications. Today, we honor her memory and those of countless mothers who have died to pregnancy and childbirth complications by launching a groundbreaking project to Website transform maternal healthcare in Nigeria.

Our initiative, "Digital Solutions to Check Maternal Health," tackles the critical issues plaguing manual recording systems in primary healthcare centers. We have created the innovative MaternalRecordPro app to streamline maternal health data collection, ensure real-time monitoring, and facilitate informed decision-making.

Key features include:

- Automated reminders for prenatal appointments and medications

- Enhanced data accuracy for guided maternal interventions

- Bridging the gap in healthcare access and improving the maternal health index

Pilot Phase Preparation:

We have developed the MaternalRecordPro app and are now preparing to pilot it in 10 primary healthcare centers. While we have not yet implemented the pilot phase, we have conducted extensive stakeholder engagement and feedback sessions with the primary healthcare board, healthcare professionals, and M&E staff of primary healthcare centers. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with stakeholders expressing excitement and enthusiasm for the app's potential to transform maternal healthcare practices. We are now seeking support in the form of laptops and tablets to equip these healthcare centers and make the pilot phase a success.

Training and Scaling Up:

The campaign includes extensive training sessions for healthcare providers, ensuring seamless integration of the digital tool into their practices. Over the next months, the app's implementation will be scaled up to additional primary healthcare centers, contributing to more significant improvements in maternal health outcomes.

The project will be implemented in primary healthcare centers across Nigeria, focusing on areas where maternal health interventions are crucial.

Who:

Accurate maternal health data is indispensable for effective interventions. This project benefits healthcare providers, enabling them to pinpoint areas needing more attention. It aids the government in allocating funds strategically and assists development partners in directing resources precisely. Ultimately, it contributes to Nigeria's global maternal health index goal.

Why:

The inspiration behind this initiative lies in personal tragedy. Losing my sister due to complications exacerbated by inadequate record-keeping highlighted the flaws in the current manual system. Missing records, errors, and inefficiencies plague the manual method. Access to accurate health information is a human right, and our project aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency in maternal healthcare data.

We've developed a user-friendly web platform that digitizes the entire process of collecting, recording, and analyzing maternal health data in primary healthcare settings.
