Maternity Health Project & School Health Project
Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,
The time in between two jobs has been a time of self reflection for me, but also a time in which I realised how privileged I am growing up in a first world country despite the fact that I am temporarily unemployed.
That realization inspired me to make the most of my time and contribute to a worthwhile cause, not just financially but also by helping people in need.
In September, I will fly to Uganda to support the Bulamu Access Foundation, which is a foundation committed to women's health.
This organization has done excellent work in educating schoolgirls about the risks of HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancies (School Health Projects) and assisting pregnant women and new moms (Community Maternal Health Projects). All of their work is centered on charity and fundraising.
I intend to support and finance one of each of these projects.
The School Health Project will target 500 schoolgirls who will be educated and tested for HIV/AIDS, as well as informed about the dangers of unprotected sexual activity. Uganda ranks fifth among countries with the highest HIV/AIDS prevalence.
The Community Health Project will reach around 300 women, who will be tested for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Malaria. They will also receive sanitary kits to help mothers establish a safe environment for their babies. Every year, over 6.000 women and adolescent girls in Uganda die as a result of preventable pregnancy and childbirth complications.
Both projects will provide medicine and counseling to girls and women who test positive for any of these diseases.
The foundation requires 7,000 euros to operate both events, which includes medication, testing materials, medical items, doctors and nurses.
I can't afford to do this all on my own, so I'm going out to my network and asking for your help in making these initiatives a reality. You will make a significant difference in the lives of the 800 women we will reach, as well as contribute to life-saving efforts.
As is the case with many charity organizations, a large portion of the funds donated are typically spent on overhead expenses. I've been in communication with this organization for quite some time now, and they've revealed accurate budgets for both types of events, so I'm confident that any donated cash will wind up where they're needed. There will be no overhead associated with this project.
I'm speaking to your hearts, and I hope you'll help me to make this happen.
Cheers!
