Maternity help for my Cambodian daughter
Hello, friend. My name is Lindsay, and I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On the eve of my 45th birthday, I am creating this fundraising campaign to allocate and direct funding to support the safe pregnancy, labor, and delivery of my Cambodian daughter.
In 2006, during graduate school, my husband Andy and I became sponsors to a young orphan named Srey No while residing in Cambodia. Over the years we became very close, and even traveled with our young children to stand in as her mom and dad during her wedding. We have watched and supported Srey No throughout the years, holding her as she transitioned from a child to a woman to a mother. Andy and I have grown to know and love her as our own daughter.
Fast forward to 2021: Srey No is due to have her second child in October in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Due to COVID-19, affordable state hospitals are turning away pregnant women, and maternity hospitals, while the optimal choice, are very expensive. I am asking for help to raise money to cover all costs for Srey No's safe labor and delivery at a maternity hospital. This will help enormously as we are currently struggling with our own financial situation. Any amount will help.
Current delivery costs range between $2,195 USD (normal L&D) and $3,295 USD (Caesarean section) so I am aiming to raise around $3,000 USD to help cover the costs. Any excess funding will be assigned to the magnificent organization through which we originally sponsored Srey No and currently sponsor other children: the Cambodian Children’s Fund (www.cambodianchildrensfund.org). I remain in close contact with our Cambodian family and am confident that all funding will reach the appropriate parties for (1) Srey No’s maternity costs and (2) quality education/health programming of Cambodia’s most impoverished, marginalized, and neglected children. As I said before, any amount will help.
With love and enormous gratitude for your support,
Lindsay
