Mates 4 Saxon
Donation protected
On the 3rd of February 2024, Saxon was out mountain biking in Queenstown, NZ when he had a devastating accident. He landed on his back, had the wind knocked out of him and couldn’t feel or move his legs. As he was the last rider in the group, he was alone and needed to use his mobile phone to call for help. His injuries were severe and he was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital, a 3-hour flight in a helicopter. Saxon underwent emergency spinal cord decompression surgery and spent 6 days in the ICU.
Saxon still cannot feel or move his legs and is in what’s called “spinal cord shock”.
Saxon has a challenging time ahead and we want to help him. Saxon is 19 years old, lives on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and has loved mountain biking for many years. He went to Mater Maria high school, graduating in 2022, and was staying in Wanaka on his ‘gap year’ trip. We’re hoping the strong mountain biking community and the wider community can help us lift his spirits and support him with what is, and will continue to be, the toughest journey.
Three weeks after his injury 6 of us flew out to visit him in Christchurch. Ryan, Will, Zac, Kyle, Alec and Noah. We were devastated seeing Saxon still suffering in pain and without his mates around him for support. His parents and doctors are doing everything to get him home to improve his recovery. But as Ryan said, “we don’t leave a man behind”.
We are launching a GoFundMe campaign to help give him the best chances of recovery. We don’t know exactly what is needed in terms of transport home, treatments, rehab, short-term mobility aids, or long-term needs, but as his close friends we want the best for him.
It’s still early days to know exactly what the costs will be, but we know they will be huge.
This campaign is created for the support of Saxon and please be assured all donations will go directly to him.
From mates trying to help a mate - we thank you for your support.
