Math Madness Tournament (Basketball + Mathematics)

Math Madness is a math + basketball competition that I invented to engage my students by merging two things I love. 

My class is no ordinary math class, and this is no ordinary math competition! Math Madness is an EVENT - math, basketball, music, student inventions, prizes, audience participation, and more! One day you'll see it on ESPN and you can say that you were a contributor to its success =)

Students work individually, and in teams, on intellectually challenging math problems that stimulate their thinking. Basketball challenges and skills are mixed into the competition through "Mathketball" - so a team might win by one math problem or by one shot!

Math is too often seen as a subject that is too boring, too difficult, or both. Every year my students debunk that myth, proving that they are some of the smartest students in the country and that math is a subject that they actually enjoy. When students are engaged, motivated, and held to high standards, it's amazing what they are capable of! In supporting this event, you will in turn be supporting the growth of young mathematicians from the Bronx and providing them with opportunities that they will remember for a lifetime.
