MATHIS 25th Birthday Live Stream Fundraiser
My name is Mathis and I am a French-Malagasy pianist & composer currently living (and under quarantine) in New York City. I am celebrating my 25th birthday this Saturday, May 30th by performing a live stream DJ set at 6PM EST with my latest live-rig set up. This is a machine that I built to create live beats with live instruments.
With the recent murder of George Floyd, I felt so much anger and confusion. I am compelled to do something and to use my music as a platform to share a greater message of what is happening in America and the world at large. The horrible events that happened to George Floyd is no unique situation and stems from hundreds of years of an oppressive system that condones the awful treatment of Black and Brown people with impunity.
I am a mixed-race immigrant in this country, with a French father and an African mother. I make a living by playing Jazz Music and furthermore, Black American music - a music that was created by those who built this country and their ancestors.
We are in the middle of a global pandemic that is disproportionately impacting Black and Brown communities across the country, and I believe I must do my part and show up. This is why I have chosen the Community Solidarity Fund to donate all proceeds from my show. Even when the pandemic is over, countless healthcare workers will face emotional and physical distraught having risked their lives to help us and keep us safe during these awful times.
This is a project I’ve been working on for 3 years, so it only feels right to launch this project with the initiative to help others.
I hope that you can help me reach my goal of $1000 to directly help these courageous health workers and that along the way you enjoy the music. Wishing you all the best,
Mathis
